Experimenting with a new way to refill carts plus other things...

OK, so a few ideas have culminated tonight following a little EUREKA! moment.

Problems I have been having / things I have been seeking inspiration on:-

1.  I have my 'night out' snazzy tobacco case which I've lined in felt and holds more than I could possibly want for a day / night out, but I have been puzzling over a container to hold some extra juice to enable me to refill carts for a weekend away.

2.  Generally, I have not been happy with my technique for refilling carts.  I am finding that my refilled carts seem to 'block' airflow somehow and make the draw extremely difficult and they don't wick properly or they deposit juice in my mouth (even when 3/4 of the way through the cart so it's not due to them being over-filled).  I have noticed that this happens a lot more with carts I have recently filled and that if they are left for a day or two, they don't seem to do this much - if at all.   Therefore, I have decided that it may well be due to air bubbles (I have tried pushing the wadding around, up, down, in, out shake it all about [lol] but I still seem to have air bubbles).

Today, my eye alighted on my contact lens travel case (that I almost never use) and a light bulb lit up in my head.

This nice little case contains 2 little 5ml plastic dropper bottles, a tiny pair of tweezers, and a dinky little contact lens case (plus a mirror in the lid).  This could be the perfect solution for my 'weekend away' kit!  The bottles and the tweezers are self-explanatory, but I also believe that the contact lens case may be the answer to my re-filling problems.... instead of putting the liquid in the filler in the carts, why not put the filler in the liquid? 

I have put a little bit of liquid into the lens case, then taken the poly/fluval and dropped it into the liquid.  It immediately soaks up all the liquid it can hold and I then re-stuff the cart using the little tweezers! 

So far, this appears to be working a TREAT.  Nicely filled carts, not over or under filled, no air bubbles, no wicking problems, lovely smooth draw.... I'm happy! 

Hopefully, it's not a fluke and will continue to work well, and my little contact lens travel kit will become my best buddy

What a fab idea, Angela!

I too have had these problems today after creating my own perfect home-brew of vaping juice. I filled the carts by dripping while the fluval was in situ, and had trouble drawing through them. Seemed to be burning out my atomisers! Aaaargh!

I shall certainly try popping the fluval into a mini bath of my lovely ejuice and THEN putting it back into the cart. I can totally see how that would make the perfect difference!

Thanks so much for this posting! I was beginning to get depressed - just found the PERFECT flavour, but couldn't bloody vape it properly! You're a star, so you are!

Yep.... and that's exactly what I've been doing until tonight.

This new method is working much better for me anyhow.  I'm sure we'll all find the method that works best for us, and so far, this is working better for me, but ta for the tips Crossbow.

I agree with you Angela I have tried soaking the filling 1st.
But for me it was one hell of a messy experience getting it back in the cart, juice everywhere.

How do you find this, or overcome it?

I'm not having a problem with that. 

I'm either using my fingers or the mini tweezers (with no pressure on the filter) to pick it up and position it just in the top of the inner cart then using a paper clip at the sides of the filter (one side, then the other side and back again) I ease it back down inside the inner cart.... no problems (so far!)

I started soaking my filling a few weeks ago, instead of dripping into the carts, however, juice can squeeze out on putting the carts back, especially with the Titan cart, so I use flat edged tweezers, not the sharp kind. Grip the full filling with tweezers, making sure you are holding your cart over the liquid, then holding the cart on its side, push the filling back in, that way any drips that are squeezed out will not be wasted.

Its a good system for when your filling is getting a little tatty, but you are too mean to throw it away until the last drop of life is squeezed out of it....like me...lol

I must admit I prefer the method of using a drilled out piece of wood, filling the cart and leaving it to soak through whilst in the upright position. Capping them after a long soak and using when needed.

Got that idea from you Garry and your fab desk !

That is also my best method.
I find the carts get more juice.

I use disposable contact lenses from time to time, and put some in this morning for karate graduation (I'm a blue belt now! LOL) and kept the cases. I've just cleaned them out and am about to prepare some carts!

Wish me luck... although I reckon you've really hit on something here, Angela.

BTW, have just bought a small handy cosmetics bag from Tesco for £3 which I believe will hold all my 'portable' vaping kit really neatly!

Thanks again Angela. I've given my fluval a bath in an old contact lens case and it's fabulous! What an awesome method, and so much easier than dripping and risking blowing up my atts! LOL

PS - I have it down to a fine now and can just poke the little bit of filler with the paper clip and slide it up the side of the contact lens case and straight into the inner cart in one movement.... brilliant!

Hey Angela, this could be the problem I am having, as to my thread on my MAD scientist?? Because, 8 days vaping and seem to be filling a lot after a 3 minute vape    ,, so maybe I will try this method of soaking, or crossbows method. Maybe I am getting air bubbles or something? Because my atomizer seems to be working, just not getting much vape, and when I look at cart, their is still liquid inside of it, or maybe like Gary said, just get new filler? Just didnt think I would be doing this after 8 days vaping!!

Problem fixed Angela, vaping like mad-refer to my thread MAD scientist--but I am also going to avoid the air bubble issue if possible!!

 I was having real problems with my battery flashing and not being able to get a decent drag  after putting 3/4 drops in my cart, i vape a super cig and that all you can fit in a cart without it pooling. I started soaking the filling and those problems have gone!

I have a little 10 ml bottle i carry around with me all the time and my flat end tweezers, i just dip my filling in the bottle useing my tweezers and pop it back into my cart, dont make any mess and my super cig is vaping the best its ever vaped since i started 2 weeks ago.

I have to say, both Steve and I have had far more success doing it this way and haven't had a 'bad vape' since switching to this method.  For some reason, the carts wick right to the end without a drop off in flavour / vapour either (it catches us by surprise, actually, because one second we're vaping away full throttle, and the next drag it's next to nothing and the filler is completely dry!)

I was scouring for good ways to refill my carts and spotted your post Angela, and you are a star!!
My hubby and I wear daily contacts, but hubby used to use the ones that needed cleaning so I scouted about and found the little case he used to use, grabbed a pair of tweezers, dropped some juice in the case, put the filling in and popped it back in the cart and flipping 'eck it works a treat!! No more mess hehe

Being an E-juice newbie i have only had my liquid for a day and i have tried 4 or 5 different methods and have found that the best for me is, 3 drops in cart, with tweezers move the filling up and down till the level drops then couple more drops, do the same then one more for luck. just before i put back into cart dab the top with a bit of kitchen roll. Result, a perfect vape and nothing wasted plus no liquid in my mouth.

Hmmm... just noticed that the majority of people who seem t be finding this an easier method are female, whereas the males seem to find it a 'messy' experience..... wondering if the fact that women generally have smaller hands is a factor.

You'd be surprised how little is on the kitchen roll after dabbing. Not enough to give a mozzy a throat hit!!!

Sorry to bust that idea, but I am a woman (well, sort of! LOL) but I have bigger hands than anyone I've ever met, man or woman! So that can't be it...
